A recent social media video posted by Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella showed how small farmers in India are using the tech giant’s artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to forecast weather patterns, fight pests, and increase agricultural harvests.
He captioned the video on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “A fantastic example of AI’s impact on agriculture.”
Highlighting the role of AI in empowering farmers, Nadella pointed to the Maharashtra-based Agriculture Development Trust (ADT). He said, “One example I wanted to highlight is a small farmer who is part of the Baramati cooperative… It’s amazing how this potent technology is actually assisting small landowners in increasing the yield of their crops.

He went on to say that Microsoft’s AI tools help farmers comprehend the best agricultural methods in their local languages by using geospatial and spatiotemporal data from satellites, drones, and soil analysis.
“This is like stitching everything together,” Nadella remarked. “It’s truly amazing.”
One of the farmers benefiting from Microsoft’s AI technology is 65-year-old sugarcane farmer Suresh Jagtap from Baramati. AI is now a crucial tool for Jagtap in order to maximize crop conditions throughout harvest, especially when sugarcane’s sucrose content is at its highest. Although the harvest is scheduled for November, he has already noticed significant improvements.
“The growth is excellent,” Jagtap told Microsoft. “The leaves are greener, and the height of the plants is more uniform.”
Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, added, “More and more breakthroughs with quantum computing…” in response to Nadella’s remark.
This project demonstrates how artificial intelligence is transforming conventional farming and increasing its productivity and efficiency .With AI-driven insights, small farmers now have access to tools that were once available only to large-scale agricultural enterprises.
